Your eyes work much like a camera. Light bounces off the image in front of you and comes into your eyes through the cornea, which acts like a window at the front of the eye. Once the light comes through the pupil it will go through the eye's lens. Just like in a camera, the lens is used to focus on an object and direct the light to the back of the eye. The images we see are made up of light reflected from the objects we look at. Because the front part of the eye is curved, it bends the light, creating an upside down image on the retina.
Imagine your eyes as a camera - for your camera to work, light must come in through the lens and reach the back of the camera. When you point the camera at a flower, the sunlight that bounces off the flower enters through the lens. The lens directs the light so that it shines onto the back of the camera. Light cannot bend and must travel in a straight line. Because the area in the lens where light goes in is very small compared to the size of the object, the light that contains the image will create an upside down and flipped picture. The images that are captured on your retina are also upside down but your brain converts the information so you perceive the world correctly.
Your eyes work much like a camera. Light bounces off the image in front of you and comes into your eyes through the cornea. The cornea is a clear thin layer on the outside of your eyes. The cornea will help direct the light towards your pupil and Iris. These two parts work together to control the amount of light entering your eye. As you can SEE, vision is a complex process. The brain has to do a lot of work to make a picture.
The most common forms of vision impairment are errors of refraction -- the way light rays are focused inside the eye so images can be transmitted to the brain. Nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism are examples of refractive disorders and often occur when the eyes are otherwise healthy.
To better understand if eye exercises that promise "natural vision improvement" can actually reduce refractive errors, you need to consider eye anatomy and how the eye refracts light.
Problems with how the eye is shaped typically contribute to focusing errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. For example:
Eye exercises typically make you move your eye muscles to create up-and-down, side-to-side or circular motions and make you change your point of focus to different distances. By learning how to relax their eye muscles, people can improve their eyesight. When you think about it, it’s unbelievable that the Bates and the Hackett approach hasn’t become more widely used.
Scientists who are studying neuroplasticity—a new branch of neuroscience that is developing from an understanding that the brain is capable of much more self-repair and healing than we ever thought possible. They’ve discovered many instances of the brain’s being able to develop new patterns through learning experiences. Consider this for one moment: you see with your brain. The brain processes the signals from your retinas and your optic nerve to supply an image to your conscious self. This could be the key to explaining the theories that Bates developed.
But let’s take a closer look at the problem. The World Health Organization estimates that 246 million people have “low vision,” which means they are not blind (as 39 million others are) but they have serious visual impairment, even with corrections like eyeglasses. What’s more, these numbers are considered to be on the conservative side. But if our vision is getting so much worse because of how we are using our eyes, wouldn’t it be logical that we could recover by learning to use your eyes in a better way?
It is definitely not a regimen of eye exercises. It’s a bad idea to focus only on eye exercises, because "every time you try harder and make an effort to see better, you are increasing the tension on your eyes. While actually you should be letting go of tension.” Eye exercises are forced movements, while relaxation is the key to vision improvement. Bates developed several techniques that can help you relax your eyes.
The refractive error is not static as eyeglasses are; vision acuity fluctuates all day, sometimes focusing a bit better, other times somewhat worse. Glasses give you the same constant compensation all day long, she explains, and that’s hard on your eyes. They lose the freedom to adapt to each situation—another reason why glasses create eyestrain.
Eyes are part of the body, and if there is a constant strain on them, your body needs to make a constant effort to let them work. Letting go of this tension and strain is very valuable. What you gain is much more than just being able to live without glasses.

Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. Commonly used drying oils include linseed oil, poppy seed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil. The choice of oil imparts a range of properties to the oil paint, such as the amount of yellowing or drying time.
Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516) once said, "It's the depth and richness of tone and color that could be had with oil paintings." Painting with oils is very versatile and can be manipulated in a lot of different ways. This is one of the reasons why it's so popular. What makes it so versatile is the fact that it dries slowly, which allows the colors to be modified and move around the canvas for a while after they have been painted on. You can paint an oil in one sitting because of this technique, known as wet-in-wet. When you have an experienced artist, they will accurately reflect what we see onto a canvas, bringing life to the canvas as it dances with all the colors your naked eye sees.
The benefits of oil-based paints include the ability to apply paint to a canvas and not have the paints quickly run into one another. When paints run into one another, they tend to alter the desired color and can cause a painting to turn out far different than the original idea planned for it. The drying time is longer than with water-based paints, so mixing colors directly on a canvas is possible. The paints can be thinned with a medium to get the consistency desired to help in the flow of how the paint going onto the canvas. The benefit of painting with oils compared to water is the drying time. No fear of messing things up with paint drying too quickly. You'll feel more creative with the time you have to capture your thoughts and colors to create your masterpiece. For typical oil paintings, they are sketched out onto the canvas first and then color is added later. Charcoal is most often used. One can add turpentine or mineral spirits to the paints to increase the drying time of the paints. When starting out an oil painting, clearly you'll start with one layer, but as you increase the layers of paint, the richness will begin to show. By adding multiple layers of oil, this reduces the risk of cracking and peeling that sometimes happens.
If you're looking for less yellowing during the drying period, you may want to use a Safflower oil. This is a big help with yellowing. Lighter colors tend to hold their color better with this particular oil, plus it has a longer drying time. The most common oil to use in oil paints is Linseed oil. This oil comes from the seed of the flax plant. However, paintings created with either of these oils cannot be cleaned up with water. Now you can purchase oil paints that are already mixed and also pre-stretched canvas can be fund at most art supply stores. This is an easy option, especially for beginners, but the novice painter likes to mix their own pigments personally. But no matter what you choose, you will have the freedom to create endless possibilities on canvas with oil paints. The experience is well worth the investment.
Throughout her life, Anita was a “dabbler” in various art mediums. She took some art courses at Fordham University, but never oil painting, and was never “serious” about learning to paint. Then she studied with Max Horbund at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey, and will continue to apply herself to oil painting for the rest of her life, until she masters it!

The first metal clips were introduced by Waterman in 1905, no later than April of that year. The L.E. Waterman Company was assigned U.S. Patent No. 800,141 for the invention.
For a nominal fee, purchasers of Waterman fountain pens could get a nickel-plated clip riveted to their pens. Later on, gold-plated fittings also became common. The process was done with a special riveting machine, although part of the alignment was done by hand (the slight variation in clip placement and existence of crooked clips evidence this fact).

William I. Ferris' patent application for the first pen clip (from Google Patents).
First known advertisement containing mention of the famous Waterman Clip-Cap from April 1905 (from Vintage Pen News).
Regardless, clip-less pens were still popular later into the 20th century, as accommodation clips (clips that could be fitted to a clip-less cap) and ring-top chains (which were worn on a chain around the user's neck) were alternative ways for securing pens.
Additionally, older pen styles were still in fashion for at least a little while after the introduction of the clip-cap, which didn't become the norm overnight. One of the oldest pens I own, a Waterman 12 eyedropper pen, may have been produced as early as the 1890s but was still in production well into the 20th century. Not only does it not have a lever fill mechanism, it has no cap threads or clip. The cap was secured to the barrel simply by friction. Many Watermans I have from the '20s and '30s never had clips attached to them (although it was certainly an option at that point).
